   Power supply and operation principle


       Three-phase motor: requires access to three-phase AC power (380V), utilizes three-phase alternating current to generate a rotating magnetic field to drive the rotor, and is characterized by high starting torque and smooth operation13.

       Single-phase motor: requires only single-phase AC power (220V), assisted starting by capacitor or resistance, with pulsating magnetic field and lower starting torque, suitable for light load scenarios79.



   Efficiency and power range

       Three-phase motors are generally 10%-15% more efficient than single-phase motors and have a wide power range (typically 0.5kW to thousands of kW), making them suitable for high-power, continuous-run industrial scenarios39.

       Single-phase motors are less efficient, typically ≤3kW, and are suitable for small equipment or short-duration operations79.



   Structure and cost

       Three-phase motors are compact and lighter in weight for the same power (e.g. 5kW three-phase motors are about 50kg, single-phase up to 100kg), resulting in lower long-term running costs7.

       Single-phase motors are larger and heavier due to the need for additional starting devices (e.g. capacitors), but have lower initial installation costs
